FAQ
What modules from VCV Rack can I use on the MetaModule?
You can view the latest list of available modules with our Module Finder
Currently there are over 1400 modules available, and the list is growing!
What's the difference between a plugin and a built-in?
Some modules are built into the MetaModule, meaning you can use them right out of the box. These are called "built-ins". All other modules must be loaded from a plugin (see installing plugins).
The built-ins are all modules from the following brands:
-
4ms
-
Befaco (all except Midi Thing2)
-
HetrickCV
-
Audible Instruments: (Clones of the Mutable Instruments hardware, known as "Cloned Instruments" on the MetaModule)
-
NonlinearCircuits
-
Scanner Darkly, aka Eightfold. (SDOrcasHeartV2 module)
-
Valley (Plateau, uGraph, Topograph, Feline, Interzone, Amalgam)
See the Plugins page for a full up-to-date list of plugins that are available, and which modules.
What if the module I want is not available on the MetaModule?
We have a free SDK to make it easy for developers to port their plugins to the MetaModule. You could request the developer or maintainer port it. Or make a request on our forum.
Some modules are not well suited for being controlled by physical knobs and jacks. These include modules that require heavy usage of screens or mouse-clicks, or modules that perform "magic tricks" like adding and removing controls or remote-controlling other modules. These kinds of modules will need to be re-imagined before they can offer a fun and creative user experience on the MetaModule.
